Capacity Planning Engineer — Mahindra World City, Jaipur
We're hiring a full-time, on-site Capacity Planning Engineer at Mahindra World City, Jaipur, Rajasthan 302037. The monthly salary is ₹72,500. In this role, the engineer keeps our infrastructure sized correctly ahead of demand, rather than scrambling to add servers after something has already slowed down.
Most weeks look like a mix of building tools, reading dashboards, and sitting in planning meetings where other teams describe what they're about to launch. Part of the job is technical work, and part of it is asking the right question early enough that a launch doesn't turn into an outage three weeks later. The team here has been burned before by launches that landed without any capacity review, and a chunk of this role exists specifically to close that gap going forward.
Responsibilities
- Building and shipping new features and internal tooling based on requirements gathered from infrastructure, platform, and product teams.
- Debugging capacity-related issues as they surface, whether that's a service hitting CPU limits during a traffic spike or a database running out of connection slots.
- Documenting forecasting methodology, thresholds, and past capacity incidents so the reasoning behind a decision is still findable a year later.
- Reviewing code from teammates and from partner teams when a change touches shared infrastructure, since capacity impact is easy to miss in a normal review.
A fair chunk of the actual capacity work happens outside those four bullets in practice. You'll spend real time reading Grafana panels, cross-referencing them against a spreadsheet of projected growth from the sales team, and occasionally telling a product manager that the launch date needs to slip a week because the database tier can't take the projected load yet. That conversation doesn't always go well, and handling it professionally under pushback is part of what makes someone good at this job. There's also a steady stream of smaller work: right-sizing instances over-provisioned two years ago and never revisited, tracking down why a service's memory footprint crept up 15 percent over a quarter, and keeping the capacity model from drifting out of sync with what's actually running in production.
Experience and education
This position requires 30 months of relevant experience, ideally in infrastructure engineering, site reliability, or a similar operations-facing role where you've kept systems running under real load. Someone coming from pure application development without any infrastructure exposure would likely find the ramp-up steep, since much of the intuition comes from watching systems fail in specific, memorable ways.
A bachelor's degree is the baseline qualification, and computer science or IT is the most common background among people who do this work well, though we've seen strong candidates from electronics and even industrial engineering who picked up the infrastructure side on the job. No more than a bachelor's is required.
Skills
- Capacity monitoring tools. Working knowledge of at least one monitoring stack, reading dashboards fluently enough to spot a trend before it becomes an alert.
- Forecasting. Building models that project resource needs from traffic growth, feature launches, and seasonal patterns, and being honest when a forecast turns out wrong.
- Infrastructure knowledge. Solid understanding of how compute, storage, and networking actually behave under load, not just how they're provisioned on paper.
Skills that add weight to an application without being required: hands-on experience with Kubernetes resource limits and autoscaling, cloud cost optimization work on AWS or GCP, scripting in Python for pulling and modeling metrics data, and familiarity with load testing tools such as k6 or Locust. A background in queueing theory or statistics helps with the forecasting side, though it's rare to find and not something we screen for directly. Any exposure to chaos engineering practices is a plus too, since deliberately testing how a system degrades under pressure gives you information a static capacity number simply can't.
