Junior AI Engineer

📍 Chennai 🏷️ Data Science & Machine Learning 💰 ₹59,500 / month
There's a Junior AI Engineer opening at a company based in Guindy, Chennai. It's a full-time, on-site role that pays INR 59,500 per month.

What you'd be doing

This is a role built for someone early in their AI career who wants real hands-on time with machine learning, not just coursework and tutorials. You'd work under senior engineers on live projects, picking up the practical parts of the job that don't show up in a classroom.
  • Write Python code to train machine learning models, starting from a framework like TensorFlow or PyTorch and iterating from there
  • Clean and preprocess raw datasets, handling missing values, outliers, and inconsistent formatting before a model ever sees the data
  • Apply deep learning techniques to problems assigned by the team, under senior engineer guidance
  • Help deploy trained models into production, working alongside the engineering team on the handoff
  • Document model performance and share results with the wider team in a clear, readable way
A recent project involved a model that scored well in training but performed noticeably worse once deployed, and it took a close look at the data pipeline to catch that a preprocessing step was applying differently in the live environment than it had during development. Catching that kind of gap between training and production is a normal part of the learning curve in this role.

Skills you'll need

Python is the foundation here, along with working familiarity with at least one major machine learning framework. Deep learning knowledge matters, even at a foundational level, since the team's projects rely heavily on neural network approaches. Some exposure to model deployment, even from a personal project or academic assignment, will help you get up to speed faster. None of the following are required, but they'd make an application stronger:
  • Experience with Docker for packaging models and dependencies
  • Familiarity with a cloud ML platform, such as AWS SageMaker or Google Vertex AI
  • Prior exposure to either NLP or computer vision, since the team rotates between both
  • Comfort using Git for version control on shared codebases

Qualifications and experience

A bachelor's degree is required. Most of the people the team has hired studied computer science or statistics, though a few came from other quantitative backgrounds with strong self-taught skills in machine learning. On the experience side, this role requires 6 months of hands-on work building and deploying machine learning models, which could come from an internship, a research project, or substantial independent work.

Growing on the team

The engineering group here is small enough that junior engineers get real code review and mentoring from people who've been doing this for years, rather than sitting on the sidelines. Early projects tend to be scoped tightly with a senior engineer checking in regularly, and that oversight loosens up as trust builds. This listing came through Naukri Mitra, and the team specifically mentioned they're looking for someone who asks good questions rather than someone who already claims to know everything.

Pay and benefits

The salary is INR 59,500 a month. The role includes health insurance, paid time off, and provident fund contributions as standard benefits. Since the position is on-site in Guindy, employees also get on-site cafeteria facilities and cab or commute support, which helps given Chennai's traffic during peak commute hours.

How to apply

Send a resume along with links to any projects, GitHub repositories, or Kaggle notebooks that show your machine learning work in action. A short note on one model you built, what problem it solved, and where it struggled tells the hiring team more than a long list of frameworks you've used. Candidates who move forward will complete a short take-home exercise before a technical interview with the AI team.
