This is a full-time, on-site opening for an Associate PostgreSQL Administrator based in Infocity, Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar, Odisha 751024. The monthly pay for this role is ₹63,500. You'd join a small database team responsible for keeping several production PostgreSQL clusters healthy, fast, and recoverable.
What the role involves
The job splits roughly into design work and keep-the-lights-on work, and both matter equally here. Roughly a third of a given week goes into planned changes such as schema migrations or new indexes, and the rest goes into monitoring, tuning, and responding to whatever the applications are doing to the databases that day.
- Designing and maintaining database structures for new features and existing applications, including schema changes that need to go out without downtime.
- Finding and fixing slow queries, which usually means reading an execution plan, adding or adjusting an index, and confirming the improvement under real load rather than a test dataset.
- Managing backups and data security, covering scheduled backup jobs, restore testing, access controls, and encryption at rest for sensitive tables.
- Monitoring the systems for reliability. Watching replication lag, disk growth, connection counts, and long-running transactions before they turn into an incident.
You'll also be pulled into incident response when something does go wrong outside business hours, since PostgreSQL administrators here share an on-call rotation with the rest of the infrastructure team. A recent example: a nightly vacuum job started conflicting with a batch import and locked a table for close to twenty minutes before anyone noticed. Working through that kind of thing calmly, and writing up what caused it afterward, is a real part of the job rather than an exception to it.
Experience and education
The role calls for 18 months of hands-on experience with production database systems. That's not a lot, which is exactly why it's labeled associate-level. In that window, we want evidence you've operated a database day-to-day, not just written queries against one in a course or personal project. Time spent on-call, time spent doing a failed restore and figuring out why it failed, time spent explaining a slow dashboard to a frustrated product manager: that's the kind of experience that translates directly here.
A bachelor's degree is required. Most people who land in this kind of role studied computer science or IT, but we've also taken on candidates whose degree was in something adjacent, math or electronics for instance, as long as the database experience itself checks out. We won't ask for anything beyond a bachelor's at this level, and we don't insist on any specialization beyond a completed degree.

Skills required
- PostgreSQL. Comfortable administering it day-to-day, not just querying it. Understanding of the process architecture, extensions like pg_stat_statements, and configuration parameters that actually get tuned in production.
- SQL. Confident writing and reading complex queries, including window functions and CTEs, well enough to rewrite a bad one someone else submitted.
- Replication. Setting up and monitoring streaming replication, understanding lag, and knowing what a failover actually does to connected applications.
- Backup and recovery. Running pg_dump or physical backups, and being able to restore to a point in time when asked, not just in theory.
- Performance tuning. Reading EXPLAIN ANALYZE output, index strategy, and connection pooling basics.
A few extras that will help an application stand out: exposure to PgBouncer or another connection pooler; basic Linux administration, since our databases run on bare VMs rather than a managed service; familiarity with pgBackRest specifically; and any scripting in Python or Bash to automate routine maintenance. Prior work with monitoring tools such as Prometheus or Grafana dashboards built around PostgreSQL metrics is also useful, since that's how most of our alerting is wired up today. None of these are required to apply, and we'd rather hire someone strong on the core skills who picks up the extras on the job.
